About the Role
Doable Ventures is hiring a Rapid CAD Engineer (Junior) to turn ideas into real, testable hardware fast. You’ll help build a diverse range of products using Onshape, from aerospace and space tech to IoT, medical, and smart devices, translating rough sketches and ideas into practical, functional CAD.
The role is built on speed, not perfection.
“Build what’s doable, and build it fast. Roughly right beats perfectly late!”
This is a junior-level, part-time flexible role for a curious, creative, and execution-focused engineer who wants to learn quickly, work across industries, and get hands-on with early-stage prototyping.
Key Responsibilities
Use Onshape to create fast, functional 3D CAD models and assemblies
Translate rough concepts into usable geometry ready for early-stage prototyping
Collaborate across sectors (space, aerospace, medtech, transport, IoT, and more)
Respond quickly to design feedback and iterate efficiently
Keep CAD structures clean, version-controlled, and shareable
Required Skills
Proficient in Onshape (non-negotiable)
Strong spatial reasoning and mechanical intuition
Basic render or visualisation skills (for communicating concepts clearly)
Prioritise testability and momentum over visual perfection
Enthusiastic about working on real-world, cross-sector hardware
UK citizen or UK permanent resident (required for defence-related projects)
Nice to Have
Hands-on experience with 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC, or similar
Startup, hackathon, or early prototyping experience
Understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DfM), tolerances, or basic simulation tools
SimScale proficiency within Onshape (desired, not required)
Tools & Setup
Bring your own computer (any modern, web-accessible machine is fine)
We provide all necessary licenses: Onshape, Microsoft Office, and others as needed
Remote first, with optional hybrid work available from our Leicester, UK office
Compensation
£500 per month retainer, paid on the last day of each calendar month
Must be paid in GBP into a UK GBP bank account (mobile and challenger banks are accepted)
Expected workload: approximately 20 hours per month
Equivalent to £25 per hour, structured to remain tax-free under the UK personal allowance
This is a freelance contract. The freelancer is responsible for managing their own income tax via self-assessment
Compensation and hours may be increased based on performance
Flexible hours and deliverables
Bonus opportunities for major contributions
